This work is based on the Gormenghast novels of Mervyn Peake (1911–1968). "The cats approaching the viewer, the trickling blood and the castle; always difficult to portray as it is famous for its non-specificity, are all given idiosyncratic and original treatment" – Sebastian Peake, June 2009

In “Gormenghast”  Joseph continues his exploration of form, space, and perspective using techniques of fired and layered painted glass.
